Call for Nominations for AFP Long Island Board of Directors 2021


Do you want to play a part in shaping the future of fundraising on Long Island at the same time boosting your visibility as fundraising leader?

If you believe in the importance of the work we do and want to take a leadership role in AFPLI, you are invited to put your name, or the name of someone you believe will be a great candidate, to be considered for our Board of Directors.

We welcome innovative thinkers, dedicated professionals, enthusiastic and positive people who want to see our organization and our profession grow.

AFP Board service provides an opportunity to apply and develop leadership skills, build relationships with other talented professionals, and expand your skills as a fundraiser. We invite you, or your nominee to become personally involved and continue this proud tradition of service.

AFP has always been a great resource and I took advantage of local educational forums and trainings. Several years ago, I felt it would be a benefit to attend the International Conference. At the time, I was working for a nonprofit that could not afford the conference fees or expenses. I applied for the Chamberlain Scholarship, which is available to first time attendees to the International Conference, regardless of how long you have been an AFP member. I was awarded the scholarship! It was such valuable experience, hearing national and international fundraising educators and top professionals as well as networking with fundraisers from around the globe!

AFPLI Honored as a Ten Star Chapter
We are pleased to annouce that AFPLI has been named a 2020 Ten Star Chapter by our parent organization, Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Every year, AFP, the largest association of professional fundraisers in the world, honors chapters for achieving goals that align with key objectives in its long-range strategic plan. Chapters receive the Ten Star Award for performing specific activities designed to increase professionalism within fundraising and public awareness of the importance of philanthropy. Just one-third of all AFP chapters are named Ten Star Chapters, so the Association of Fundraising Professionals Long Island Chapter is one of a select group of chapters to earn this honor.

Ten Star Chapters are recognized at the AFP International Conference on Fundraising. Chapters also earn the privilege of displaying the Ten Star logo on their website, newsletters and stationary.

“I want to congratulate AFPLI, which is playing a key role on Long Island in promoting ethical and effective fundraising and educating the public about the importance of fundraising and wise giving,” said Jason Lee, Interim president and CEO of AFP. “Our Ten Star Chapters have demonstrated outstanding programming and leadership for the fundraising profession, and I’m pleased to recognize their outstanding efforts. If individuals and organizations on Long Island have questions about fundraising and philanthropy, they should definitely contact AFPLI.”

Criteria for the award are determined by AFP International Headquarters. A list of several goals is published annually and chapters must accomplish 10 of these goals during the year and submit a nomination form for verification to be honored.
